Rd 3 U12.2 v Figtree

Considering we’ve had some very low turn outs at training over the past couple of weeks I couldn’t complain about the team’s performance in Rnd 3 on what was a very hot day. Overall Russell Vale played the better football and were unfortunate not to come away with at least a point against last season’s Division II Grand Finalists. Just an observation but Figtree had some of the tallest 11-12 year olds I have ever seen in my life.

Regional League Competition Players

Four players from the Under 14 division 1 side have been selected to represent Football South Coast in the Football NSW Regional League Competition. The players are Jack Noli, Ruben Muharem, Brodie Foster, and Sam Luyten. The competition is a second tier competition under the FNSW Premier League, where the South Coast Wolves play. The boys go to extra training sessions with squad which is being mentored by Former A-League Player and current South Coast Wolves Captain Jacob Timpano. They had a pre-season hit out against Southern Districts where they won comfortably, and today (28th April) played their first competitive game against the St George Association. All four boys had very solid games with Jack picking up a goal in their 6-1 win. We are very proud to have the boys playing in the comp and wish them all the best throughout the year.

Fixtures and results are available on the FNSW web site.   The boys travel to Bathurst to play Western NSW Football on 26th May, followed by a home game at Macedonia Park against Hakoah Sydney City East on 16th June.

Here’s a photo of the boys after their recent club game against Coniston at the Cawldron.

Team Photos Saturday 11th May

The club has organised for Team Photos to be taken on Saturday 11th May. This is an opportunity for parents and kids to get a memento of their year at the Cobras as well as being a fundraising exercise for the club (we get a percentage of the takings) We have had a go at putting together a schedule but it will take a bit to get it right so we are currently getting it cross checked. We would normally like to take the photos before the game so that the kids aren’t dirty or hot and sweaty but the difficulty is that we have a heap of games at 08:30 and 09:30(ish) kick off times. It would be impossible to achieve so some photos will be taken after the games are played.

We have put together the envelopes for each team and will distribute them this week and on the weekend. If you don’t have one by next Monday then see your Team manager. Inside the envelop is a copy of the packages that are available. If you are interested here is a link to a slideshow of the full package available.

and here is a link to the brochure, what you get and how much it costs (this is basically the handout from the envelope)

We do need everyone’s help.

1/ Parents, please, please, please, get their kids to the ground on time. The schedule is tight, 10 mins per team, and late comers make it very difficult to keep things going. Some kids will need to rush off to make their game time at other grounds.

2/ Check the Team Envelope on the day for correct spelling, and preferred names. This is extremely important as the envelope is key to getting it right. There’s also lots of kids out there who go by different names to what’s on the rego sheet. Understandably this is very important to a lot of people, so please check, and then you know it will be right.

3/There is no need to collect before photo day. Bring your money on photo day and give to the team manager. If you bring the correct money it will help.

If it rains we will have the photos at an alternate location, probably the Community Hall.

Any questions let me know.

regards,

Garry

Rd 2 U12.2 v Coledale

Coledale 1 v 0 Russell Vale

I’m quick enough to praise the lads when they deserve it, so in turn they have to take it on the chin when they don’t perform to expectations. To say Russell Vale didn’t turn up for the first half would be an understatement. In fact it took a full 12mins before we even managed to get out of our own half and during that time we even kicked off twice!!

When Russell Vale started the game Coledale took the ball off us before we had even completed our second pass. From then on they created chance after chance and it was only their profligacy in front of goal that kept the scoreline down to 1-0 at HT. Their goal came from a free kick, how many times did that that happen last season and even more disappointing from a coaching perspective we have worked on this scenario numerous times at training. Our one excursion into the Coledale half against the run of play did lead to a penalty and the chance to level the score………..but it was not to be.

At HT I reminded the team that to play “pass & move” football you do actually have to pass and move but more importantly win the ball in the first place. With no subs to call on the same 11 players returned to the pitch with the opportunity to restore some pride.

The second half turned out to be a far more evenly contested game with chances at both ends, the clearest chances going to Russell Vale but unfortunately we failed to convert. In the last 5mins I don’t think Coledale managed to get out of their own half as the Cobras tried desperately to equalise and I think their team were somewhat relieved when the final whistle went.

It’s not the end of the world, only Rnd 2. There’s a long season ahead and hopefully an important lesson was learnt today. The second half proved that Russell Vale can compete at this level, they just have to do it on a consistent basis.

Training as usual Mon/Wed during the holidays for those that can make it. No game this weekend, Rnd 3 is (away) to Figtree Sat 27 April – midday K/O.

Rd 1 U12.2 v Bulli

Russell Vale 3 v 2 Bulli

Given the circumstances this was a fantastic result. It was the first game of the season, Bulli had already beaten us in a preseason friendly and again in the 7’s tournament, plus we were down to the bare minimum of 11 available players.

In H’s absence Jack Donnelly captained the team and the first half turned out to be fairly even. We missed a penalty from 16 yards out yet I was always under the impression it was supposed to be 12 yards. Anyway it was the referees first game so we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Surprisingly although we practice penalty kicks in training now and again, come match day only 1 in 5 have actually gone in during the past three seasons.

Spurred on from the missed penalty Bulli caught our defence cold to take the lead 0-1. A good build up and a good through ball from Christian Mortimer set Jordan Errington up to equalise on the stroke of half time. Although there was a hint of offside about it these things tend to even themselves out over the course of the season. Even in this game we should have been awarded a second penalty when their defender blocked a shot with his hands but that’s just the way it goes.

In the second half Bulli were first out of the traps and within the first couple of minutes restored their lead from a corner. Again our team failed to deal with the cross and were punished accordingly. With no subs to call on it needed a tactical switch to get us back into it. Bailey Mortimer moved up front and Ethan Lanarch took over in midfield, from then on Russell Vale controlled the game with our passing and Bulli were limited to a few forays into our half that were comfortably dealt with by the defence.

Russell Vale missed several chances until late in the game Hayley Waller slipped the ball through for Bailey Mortimer to score at the second attempt and make it 2-2. The green machines then poured forward in search of the winner and were duly rewarded when Bailey Mortimer returned the compliment to Hayley Waller by laying the ball on for her to drill it inside the near post and give Russell Vale the lead for the first time in the game. In fact the third goal turned out to be the winner as the ref blew up soon after.

Sometimes a moment of individual magic can win a game but in this instance it has to go down as a brilliant team effort, they just never gave up. With time running out they kept their patience and didn’t panic. The second and third goals were both the end product of superb passing moves that must have been in double figures by the time the ball hit the net.

Great start to the season and once again they make me feel very proud to be their Coach.

Saturday 13 April we are away to Coledale, I believe the KO is around 10:30am so please ensure the players arrive by 10:00am. This will be a tough game as Coledale won the Division IV League & Grand Final last season winning every single game along the way. As a result they skip a division and join us in Division II. Once again we only have 11 players available but if they play with the same heart and desire as they did last weekend I will have no complaints whatever the result.

Cawley Park facility upgrade update.

This is an email sent by Stephen Smart our Club secretary and a former very talented (still goes ok in the men’s over 35 comp…)and proud RVJFC player- many many moons ago… to all coaches and managers this morning.

“For those of you that aren’t aware, 14 months ago we secured $85,000 from the NSW Govt and WCC to upgrade “the sheds” at Cawley Pk. It has been a long process but we had a site meeting with WCC and RVJFC Officials this morning and I am pleased to announce that $220,000 will be spent on a total refurbishment of this facility.

Unfortunately the timing isn’t great with work starting on Apr 22 with an approx. 60 day work time frame.

As part of the work “the sheds” will be off limits with a construction fence ensuring no access. We have been able to secure some portable toilets another container to store commonly used items e.g. fridge, bbq, nets, corner posts etc. and provision to access the lights for training. I hope the lights don’t become too much of an issue, but, as with any construction, power may need to be cut from time to time. While we have provisions in place nothing is totally micro manageable. As a consequence, throughout the next 2 – 3 months could we all be patient. If something does go wrong, it is not the fault of anyone, just a part of the construction process. If an issue does arise please let me know I might be able to resolve with the building/construction WCC contact I have been given through this process. Believe me, a little bit of pain now will be all worth it!!!!

The canteen isn’t part of this process; however power may be an issue from time to time. We will be informed of planned extended power outages. And, we should still have access to the benches across the front of the sheds for the majority of the build.

The container will arrive on Apr19 so over that weekend we will have to arrange a removal gang to move various items currently in the shed to the temporary container.

I am personally excited by all this as the sheds are the exact same as when I was using then 35 years ago! Great stuff for the football and general RV community”.
