Grand Final Qualifier Newsletter

After last weekend’s semi- final action, I am happy to report that we have both our teams back in action this weekend playing for a spot in the Grand-Final. We have both our under 13.1’s and 11.3’s playing down at Warilla this Saturday morning and it would be great to see a big turnout of Russell Vale supporters to cheer both Teams on! I have included match reports from the weekend’s games from both Teams in this newsletter and on behalf of the wider Russell Vale community, I would like to wish both teams the best of luck in what shapes up to be a great day down at Warilla this Saturday morning.

Also in this week’s newsletter I have included a piece on one of the finest coaches that have coached at Russell Vale Junior Football Club over the last decade! For those of you who have not had the pleasure of having their children coached by this man it is a real shame as unfortunately at the end of the Year he is moving back to England with his family. His name is Shaun Hamlet and is our under 11.3 coach. To many in the Club he needs no introduction, for those of you that have children playing their first or second year- Shaun epitomises everything that is great about the Russell Vale Junior Football Club! His passionate and professional approach has had wonderful results for his teams on and off the Football pitch and his enthusiasm amongst his playing and supporter group is contagious! Shaun will leave a lasting legacy that will be felt and be evident for many years to come and it is with great sadness that we say good bye to him at the end of this year. Shaun and his Team are still to write the final chapter in Shaun’s RVJFC book and win or lose this weekend the players/parents and supporters will always cherish and be grateful of the impact Shaun has had on their early footballing careers!

Hopefully everyone enjoyed a safe and fun filled school holiday period and are looking forward to the remaining 5 matches of the year. This week is a little quieter at Cawley park as we have no Friday night games and no SSG hubs, although we still do have a big Saturday planned with 4 teams playing down there. It will be a Russell Vale Super Saturday as we have our inaugural Trivia night at Woonona Bowling Club!! With 15 tables now confirmed it is shaping up as a great night. Remember it is not to late to get a table together and payment and confirmation of tables will be taken up to this Thursday night- so don’t miss out!!!

Unfortunately there was no football played over the weekend due to the wet weather and the entire round was cancelled. For Competition Teams that means there will be no make-up games to be played. For parents and players it means we will be all refreshed and ready for action this weekend in round 11!

It was great to see all our Competition teams do well on the weekend. The under 13’s Boys and girls teams both achieved important victories on Friday night at home. And our 11.4’s Team had a great win against Bulli away on Saturday morning. All Teams scored 1-0 victories. Our undefeated under 11.3s team kept their winning run in tact with another comprehensive victory over Balgownie. And finally our under 15girls were unlucky against Dapto who are running second on the ladder, going down 3-0.

It was great to catch up with Stan Starr a former president of RVJFC and life member of the club down at Cawley Park on Saturday morning. Stan was president of the club during the late 70’s and early 80’s and also coached at the club for over 20 years. Stan popped by the field to see how the club was travelling and he was very impressed with what he saw and heard. Steve Smart and I had great delight in hearing some of old Stan’s stories about the club and particularly some of the successful training techniques he employed when he was a coach. Steve and I presented Stan with a club shirt and we hope to see Stan down at Cawley Park again in the near future.

NEWSLETTER ROUND 8

Well done to both the 13.1 boys’ team and the 11.4 team who both had to play two games this weekend due to the washout in round 2 and the need for makeup games to be played. It was a big effort backing up on the Sunday after the windy and wild conditions they had to endure at Cawley Park on the Saturday morning.
