NEWSLETTER ROUND 7
We had another huge amount of football at Cawley Park over the weekend. We had a few highlights over the weekend and one would of had to of been the U8 hub on Saturday where the canteen had its biggest single day in years!! Thanks to our under 8 parents and other parents from other teams who helped out on this day and contributed to the result! Days like these reinforce how important duty days are for teams to junior sporting clubs like ours. Our Committee is determined to keep our registration fees the lowest in the district and we can only achieve this with all families contributing to days like these. Remember the more parents/ supporters that help out on their nominated Ground duty the easier the day becomes for everyone!!
Rd 6 Vipers v Woonona
Sunday saw the Russell Vale VIPERS go up against Woonona at the Cawley Park Cauldron…
The Vipers thought this week would be the week we hit the back of the net with the ever elusive 1st goal. With Woonona kicking off the Vipers were already starting the charge towards the Woonona defensive line, with Helen, Renae, Jennifer and Nicole making a couple of fast breaks. The Mid field missed our big kicker Erin but with Bonser, Jodie, Angela & Patsy stepping up we mixed it with the Woonona side…Linda and Mel helped out on the wings to start by pushing the ball out to keep the middle running free, as Laura once again proved to be a force to be reckoned with in defense having Paula on one side and Cheryl on the other the back line held strong under the attack of the Woonona strikers. Max stepped into goals this week, with Sheree away on other duties, Max did a brilliant effort even though she was under the weather and already nursing a crook ankle. A high over the top kick at goal made it under the cross bar giving Woonona 1 goal up with a second goal quick on its heels the Vipers were under pressure…With Max going over on her other ankle Cheryl stepped into goals keeping the side covered until a cracker of a shot flew past the goalie making them 3/0 up….
Rd 6 U11.3 v Unanderra
Before I talk about last weekend’s U11A game I just want to put the record straight. Contrary to the rumours circulating in the UK press and abroad I have not been approached by LIVERPOOL FC for the vacant position of Coach. Much as I love and worship the Anfield Club even if they did contact me, I am happily committed to the RV U11A’s until the end of the season.
Both teams went into this game unbeaten but only one team finished with their record intact, fortunately it was Russell Vale who came out on top. Although Unanderra were cheered on by a large contingent of away supporters, it was Russell Vale who took an early lead through Jordan Errington. The game swung from one end to the other but our defence once again were in outstanding form and managed to limit Unanderra to only a few shots in the entire game. Our passing style even had the away support comparing Russell Vale to Barcelona and it was no surprise when Jordan Errington added a second goal. Then almost on the stroke of HT Unanderra pulled a goal back with an unstoppable shot form the edge of the box.
