Ryan’s back! We now have 11 on our books, plus Jasmin if she wants to be with us.

Hi everyone,
Thanks to everyone who has come along and signed up, exciting times indeed!

As expected Aiden has decided to try out Rugby League, and Ryan is still deciding whether to play, or concentrate on his many other interests.

Isabel will probably take up the option of playing in the U11 Girls team we have managed to put together with a bunch of U9, 10 and 11 girls. The Club is extremely happy to have this side, and it looks like we will get an U13 girls side together as well. I’ll be talking to Jasmin when we get together to see what she wants to do. It will probably depend on what our final numbers are as to where she plays, but it will probably be both!!! Both Isabel and Jasmin (and the other U11 girls) will be available to play for our team throughout the year. I am looking forward to developing a relationship between our two sides, and will be more than happy to have them come along and train with us whenever they are available and keen.

While we may lose up to 4 of our players from last year we have done pretty well in the transfer negotiations, picking up two exciting new players in Mark McGivern and Reuben Muharem. Mark played for Bally last year after moving to Australia from Canadia. He played in the Summer 7-a-side competition with the Sams, Matty and Wilson. He’s currently holidaying in Canada and will be back in the next couple of weeks. Reuben goes to school with Matty, SamM and the Kentta boys. He played in the Wollongong Olympic side that worked us over in the grading game last year and ended up making the Semi-finals of Division 2. At least 2 of the boys from that side made the Illawarra squad, and Matty tells me he’s pretty handy in the schoolyard.

I look forward to getting to know the boys over the season and hope they enjoy the year. I’m sure you will all get together and make their families feel welcome in our team as well. I reckon the parents getting along so well has helped keep our side together and meant people haven’t gone off to other clubs in search of something greener.

The U12s side is no more……….. which makes me a little sad :(

Things have changed for me a bit this year with Heidi working longer hours I need to get home and look after the kids. Not exactly sure how training and everything is going to pan out. At this stage the Sams, Matty, and Deano are doing Academy training on Wednesday nights. With everything else we have going on I would like to start getting everyone together on……

Tuesday nights 6:00pm to 7:00pm starting NEXT week (23rd)

By the time the season starts I’d like to be training two nights a week, although not sure which nights, probably Tuesday and Friday.

Let me know what difficulties this might create for you. As always, if other commitments get in the road they are only kids, and missing training isn’t the end of the world.

If you’ve done the math then you’ll have realised we are still a bit short on numbers, given we squeezed through last year with only one reserve (Lost 4 Gain 2). There are a number of different options available and I still think there are a couple of kids out there who are deciding what to do and might sign up in the next week or so. It’s important that the kids who do come along want to be there. I’m comfortable we’ll have a team with enough players, and be competitive.

We have a provisional grading in division 2, one up from last year, which will certainly test the kids out a bit, but I’m confident they are up for the challenge.

As with last year I’m very busy helping run the club. If there is anyone out there with significant coaching experience with Senior and Junior Teams and a set of qualifications as long and your arm and you are available to help out at training I’d sure appreciate the help :)

Let’s hope we get to feel as good as we did this day….
