NEWSLETTER ROUND 6

There has been plenty happening over the last few weeks at Russell Vale Junior Football Club and it is fair to say that the season is now in full swing. Thankfully the weather gods have been kind to us and there has been plenty of action on and off the pitch. As we mentioned last week our under 7’s played down at an Albion Park Gala Day last weekend and for those of you that brought the Mercury last Thursday you would have seen our players featured in the Junior Sports section. There were some great action shots and also a Team shot that really captures the essence of the day. Off the pitch we have had our Team photos taken and electrical work upgrades and also the installation of benches for the technical areas on the main field. Thank you to all Teams who either cancelled or rescheduled training as the electrical systems were being upgraded and hopefully we will have no more major disruptions to our training schedules until the end of the season. Also thank you to Jeff Charlesworth, Troy Bray and Tony Maddox who between them co-ordinated the moving and raising of our container which stores a lot of our SSG and other equipment. It was quite a project and your time and effort was very much appreciated!!

Cawley Park action this weekend

We have a massive weekend of Football coming up at Cawley Park this weekend. The following matches are scheduled over the weekend so if you are looking for something to do with the family over the weekend, come down and cheer on another of the mighty Russell Vale Cobra Teams!

FRIDAY NIGHT 6.00PM: RVJFC 13.1 VS BALGOWNIE

SATURDAY MORNING 8.30AM: RVJFC 11.4 VS CORRIMAL

9.30AM: RVJFC 11.3 VS UNANDERRA

PLUS THE UNDER 8 HUB KICKING OFF AT 9AM.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON 1.00PM: RV VIPERS VS WOONONA

RESULTS FROM COMPETITION TEAMS ROUND 5

RVJFC 11.3 vs. KIAMA

RVJFC 4 vs. Kiama 1

Another good performance in windy conditions at Kiama on Saturday morning. While their passing game wasn’t as fluent as normal, Coach Shaun was impressed by the team in coming away with a win in difficult conditions and keeping their unbeaten start to the season intact.

RVJFC 11.4 vs. ALBION PARK

RVJFC 3 vs. Albion Park 2

Another good win from the Team and that gives them 2 on the trot and looking for a hat trick of wins this weekend when they host Corrimal at home on Saturday morning.

RVJFC 13.1 vs. FIGTREE

RVJFC 0 vs. Figtree 4

A good all round performance was delivered against one of the benchmark teams in the state! The score line was not indicative of how close the match was and the team’s performance was most pleasing.

RVJFC 13.1G vs. BULLI

RVJFC 0 vs. Bulli 0

Coach Martin was pleased with the result against last year’s runners up and he was very happy with the effort put in from the girls. This will give the girls enormous confidence over the coming weeks as their season gets into full swing!

RVJFC 15.2G vs. BULLI

RVJFC 2 vs. Bulli 1

The girls had their first win of the year in a great performance over last year’s runners up (yes Bulli girls teams are normally pretty strong). 1st half performance was easily the best of the year and whilst their 2nd half was not as good as their first half, it was enough to secure the points and a memorable victory!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Professional Coaching for SSG teams

Something unique to RVJFC is having professional coaches attend our regular training sessions. The committee has agreed to and budgeted for 2 x 1 hour team training sessions with professional coaches in season 2012 for all Teams. The Coaches come from FNSW High Performance Unit and have proven highly successful over the last few years with their involvement in our training sessions. The SSG professional coaching sessions will commence on Monday 14th May and have been planned to take place in teams normal training times days etc.

Team Photos

Thank you to all Team players, coaches, managers and especially parents and supporters for getting their kids to the ground at the nominated times. Also a big thank you to Heidi Luyten who co-ordinated the day and made sure all Teams were organised and ready to go at the relevant times. Thanks Heidi!

Club Trivia Night

The Committee is in the early stages of organising a Club Trivia night to be held at the Woonona Bowling Club in late July. As details are confirmed we will advertise night and it would be great to see a big turnout for a great social night out!

ROUND 6 DRAW

The Round 6 draw is on the website. Most team’s draws are now on the FSC website which you can access via a link on our club website.

ROUND 6 GROUND DUTY SATURDAY MORNING

This week our Under 8’s are rostered on for canteen/ bbq and ground duty etc.

Under 11.4’s are asked to set up main field and provide ground marshall for their field.

Under 11.3’s are asked to take down nets and provide ground marshall for their field.

Please note it is a big day for the under 8’s as their 1st game kicks off at 9am and their last round of matches starts at 11.30am so if you have half an hour to help out please feel free to jump in and lend a hand where need be. They will be there to start the day at 7.30am so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Coach/ Managers will be sending out rosters etc. to be filled and please remember that it is all parents responsibility to assist with ground duties when it is their nominated times/ days. It is a small amount of time in the context of the whole season and your assistance and involvement will be much appreciated.

A ground duty plan for the full year was approved by the Committee at Club Meeting on Tuesday 1st May and has sent to all Coaches and Managers for implementation.

Regards

Michael Benn

RVJFC President.

The mighty RVJFC under 15 girls team had a magnificent victory over a tough and uncompromising Bulli outfit at the Cawldron on Friday night. With plenty of quality players sidelined thru illness, injury and other commitments the girls were always going to be up against it. Thankfully two of our Club’s most dedicated and skilful players came to our aid in Eden and Samantha from the under 13′s and them playing meant we would have 2 fresh reserves to call on during the game.

The game started off at a hectic pace and it was evident that a friday night game for teenage girls is a much more attractive proposition than getting out of bed at 7.00am and travelling down south for a 8.30am kick on a sunday morning which we have had to endure over the last 2 weeks. The first half was all Russell Vale and the game plan that we discussed prior to the match was executed to perfection!! We spoke about moving the ball to the flanks and attacking them where they were most vulnerable. The key points of pre match discussion being:

* Team work
* 70 minute game
* Confidence
* Belief
* 2nd effort
* Positive talk

With a 2-0 lead at half time thru goals to Meg Taylor( Great 1st career goal Meg!!!!!!!!) and Chloe (Goal scoring machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Apps the stage was set for a massive second half after our best half of football that I can remember for a long long time. Unfortunately the second half didn’t play out as we discussed as some girls were thinking about the result and not the process and performance that was required over the next 35 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Learning’s from this is that we need to stick to the game plan for 70 minutes not just 35minutes and if we can achieve this, we will have a very successful and enjoyable year.

Individual performances from all the girls were outstanding tonight- particularly in the first half and then to have the courage and character to guts out a win in the second half (without even sticking to the game plan) was amazing!!

Kylie our goalie is getting better and better with each game and while her courage and skill has never been questioned, her decision making tonight was spot on. Her kicks out of her hand are enormous and once she develops the goal kicking side of her game she will be the best goalie in the comp!

Jasmine who is our captain and 1st game sweeper was sensational tonight. Her positive talk and defensive efforts and clearing kicks were outstanding. With her and Kylie as our last line of defence the opposition attackers are going to be in for a torrid time each and every game!

Chloe J is a confident girl who is in her 1st year with the cobras but watching her play and listening to her speak, you would think that she has been at the Club for years!! She is skilful, tough and competitive and has all the attributes of a great leader. With more game time and experience she will be one hell of a player!

Sarah’s confidence and belief in her ability has improved out of sight this year. She has always had the skill and pace to her burn and this year she is backing her ability and her 2nd efforts on the ball and in defence is up there with best in the team!

Candice has made left fullback her position. Her clearing kicks and work on her opposing player were great tonight. Candice had last year off soccer, but watching her play over the last few weeks, it is hard to believe that she had any time off at all! Composure under pressure is the key to a defensive position and Candice showed plenty of that in tonight’s game- especially in 2nd half! Just remember not to rush the throw ins…

Hannah who got out of her sick bed to play tonight was inspirational in playing the centre mid position for the first time! She was everywhere and set up many attacking raids and defused many opposition attacking raids especially in 2nd half. With her competitive nature and skill this is a perfect position that she will grow into and make her own.

Shania is in her 1st year with the Cobras and the more I watch her play the more I like what I see! Her play in the mid field when linking with the forwards was great for the level of experience that she has and as her game awareness and experience improves so will her impact on the outcome of a match! Keep up the good work Shania!

Paige was great in the mid field tonight and it is a position that she can showcase her knowledge, skill and speed on a permanent basis. Her positional play was near faultless tonight as was her defence and linking up with the forwards with crisp clean passes. Paige also has one of the best throw ins in our Team and it started off many attacking raids on the right side.

Meg who is relishing the opportunity of playing up front scored her first goal this year and 1st goal since the formation of our team 3 years ago! Her vision, passing and positioning will develop the longer she spends in the role and she was unlucky not to score a few more goals tonight! Great game and 1st goal- Meg!!!

Chloe is scoring a goal every time she plays in the forwards and it is safe to say that she is making left wing her position. She scored a cracker of a goal and was a constant threat every time the ball came her way. Chloe who was our Best and Fairest player last year and can play any position but with her form she will be seeing more off the action up front!

Alyse is one of our most skilful players and all her skills were showcased tonight! Her dribbling and passing game were near perfect tonight as was her support play! What I was most pleased about tonight was Alyse’s decision making when in possession- when to pass, when to run was faultless. Alyse was another to get out of her sick bed and watching her performance and the way she pushed herself was a great boost for team morale and confidence!

As mentioned earlier, we were very fortunate to have Samantha and Eden from the under 13′s play. They were outstanding for the Team for the second week in a row and watching their performance no one would pick they were borrowed from the under 13′s!! If they had not been playing victory would of been very difficult tonight. Great work and thank you girls!!

The victory should give the Team the confidence to go on to bigger and better things this year. The girls who missed the game on Friday night will add great skill and depth to our squad and we should see the best of our Team over the coming weeks. Ashleigh and Ally will add pace and goal scoring options, Brooke and Jade will add composure and skill in the midfield and Emilee will add power and aggression at the back!!

We are now 1 win and 1 loss from 2 Competition games but the important thing is not the result it is making sure we play to our potential every game. The work that the girls are doing with Danny is paying off and if everyone stays committed and continues to put the hard work in on the training pitch- playing to their potential will come naturally and easily and ensure that the thrill of victory will be enjoyed many times through out the year!!

Great work girls and Danny, Mark and I (and your parents and supporters) are all very proud of your performance and improvement!!

Cheers

Michael

On a cold windy morning in Kiama Jordan Errington bagged four goals, two in each half. Unfortunately the best of his goals was disallowed for an offside decision that highlighted the inexperience of the match officials. Kiama made a game of it by pulling one back from a corner straight after HT. That goal also left our keeper Ethan Johnson injured and once again Brody Armour went between the sticks.

Our defenders Tom Curran, Baxter Bowler Prentice and Clayton Walker led by Jack Donnelly did an excellent job protecting the stand in keeper. Despite Kiama’s best efforts our defence prevented them from getting another shot at goal and it was left to Jordan Errington to settle the game and secure the points.

It was a long way short of our best passing performance of the season but you have to give credit to Kiama for their perseverance, plus the windy conditions weren’t exactly conducive to fluent football. From a coaching perspective I believe it’s the sign of a good team that even when they don’t play at their best, can still find a way to win.

I believe there is going to be a reshuffle of teams in Division II which may involve Thirroul and Balgownie joining Russell Vale in Division III. Once it is confirmed and the IJFA produce a new fixture list I will let you all know.

Russell Vale VIPERS Match Report

Round 5, Sunday 13th May 2012( Mothersday)

Sunday saw the Russell Vale VIPERS go up against Helensburg at the Cawley Park Cauldron in a Round 2 rescheduled match…

The Vipers knew before hitting the field that it would be a big task as many of the Vipers were injured or away on other commitments so the lack of substitutes were going to prove to be a problem ,thankfully Jasmine Benn from the Under 15’s girls put her hand up and stepped up to the challenge ….

With windy conditions the Vipers kicked off to a quick challenge into the ‘Burgs half with Renae, Nicole and Rachael up front and Erin in the centre midfield with Jennifer and Linda on the wings we moved the ball better than we have so far this season. Helping Erin in the midfield Angela and Jasmine worked hard with Bonser, Laura, Tracy and Cheryl to protect our Keeper Sheree who withstood some heavy shots at goal.

With the ½ time whistle blowing the score was nil all and we were looking to keep it that way, unfortunately for the Vipers the cool down during the break proved damaging as the ‘Burg hit back quickly into the second half, and the injuries that Tracey, Rachael & Cheryl had carried into the game had started to take their toll. The Vipers had a couple of breaks into the ‘burgs half and hopefully some more experience will help us convert the corners we receive into goals.

With the lack of substitutes the defense kept up strong but unfortunately they were pretty much dead on their feet as the ‘Burg put another one into the net. Fitness & injury really hit home for the Vipers, leaving us with a 2/0 loss but a definite improvement is evident considering we are a bunch of woman who have only had 4 games of soccer under our belts.

Big thanks to the injured players, Wendy , & Kerrie E who showed up to support our team, and also Jasmine Benn who played a brilliant game making some wonderful passes and tackles to get us into the ‘burgs box.

Thanks to all the supporters that show up each week to yell encouragement and advice as well as keep the Ref in his toes. Many thanks to Coach Paul Dunham who keeps showing up and putting up with the very feisty Vipers…Massive thank you to Bonsers’s soccer mum “Helen” who steps up every home game and works canteen for us, and to all the husbands who do nets and flags and don the yellow vest…Big thanks to Troy Bray who marked out the field before the game so we could see the lines, we couldn’t do it without all your support

Next Sunday see’s the Vipers at home against Woonona 1pm, The “Best Of Trophy” this week will be handed out at training Monday night as everyone was keen to get away to Mothers Day commitments..

NEWSLETTER ROUND 5

Last Sunday was a nominated day for gala days within the region and what a spectacular success it was at Cawley Park for our annual Luke Kerr Memorial Gala Day. Thank you to all players, parents and supporters of the Under 8 Teams for your wonderful contribution to a very successful day for the Club! We also had our under 7’s play down at Albion Park and they had a great day and loads of fun as well. Well done to both age groups and parents and supporters!

Upgrades at Cawley Park

Electrical work has been undertaken over the last few days which has brought our electrical systems up to today’s standards. With this update, our switch for lights for main fields will now be located outside of sheds in locked metal case. This switch was originally found in the western sheds. Steve Smart and myself will co-ordinate cutting of padlock key and distribution to those who need to gain access to switch for night time training and games. This will occur over the next few days. Also we have had benches placed in the main field technical areas for the comfort of players and coaches. The Committee is considering options for covering of these areas at the moment.

Club Merchandise Sales

Great to see Tony Maddox our equipment officer taking plenty of orders for our range of club merchandise again last weekend. With the weather cooling down now is the time to look at our range Club jackets and beanies and also this year with the help of Jen Bray our new Club Scarf which can be purchased at the canteen for the low price of $8.00!! See flyer in newsletter for full range of Club gear and all enquiries can be made to Tony Maddox on 0418419821 or at maddox4@westnet.com.au

On Sunday the club hosted the annual Luke Kerr U8 Gala Day. Once the wind died down we were blessed with great weather and 17 teams came along to enjoy the day. Many of the kids took advantage of playing in the “Barbarians” side that we put together to ensure everyone had a full quota of 4 games.

Thanks to everyone who gave up their Sunday to spend it with us, it was much appreciated. A massive thanks to all the parent, and grandparent, helpers. Without your contribution the day would not have been the success that it was.

Well done to all of the boys and girls who put in a lot of effort and showed great sportsmanship right throughout the day.

We received many compliments throughout the day for putting on a great event and it has also been nice to receive a few complimentary e-mails from those that attended. Everyone’s contribution has been part of this success and will ensure that our Gala Day continues to receive the support that it does.

THANK YOU ALL SOOOOOO MUCH.

Match report from Rnd 4

Russell Vale 3 v 0 Tarrawanna

A couple of weeks ago it was the tale of two brothers, this time it was the tale of two corners both courtesy of Harrison Benn. Baxter Bowler Prentice was on hand to capitalise on the first one to give the Cobras a deserved 1-0 HT lead. In the second half more chaos resulted in the goalmouth from an in swinging corner that saw Christian Baade Mortimer hit the underside of the bar but Jordan Errington was perfectly placed to net the rebound. Jordan Errington’s graft up front was rewarded again when he robbed a defender of the ball inside the 18 yard box and finished well to make it 3-0.

It wasn’t all one way traffic, Tarrawanna gave our defence a few problems by breaking at speed on the counter attack. Fortunately the defenders Tom Curran, Baxter Bowler Prentice and Baily Baade Mortimer remained solid under the guidance of our sweeper Jack Donnelly. We were forced into changing the keeper at HT due to illness and Brody Armour stepped into the breach to replace Ethan Johnson. However despite one or two goalmouth scrambles and last minute tackles the Cobras retained a clean sheet in the first game of our league campaign. Overall it was another pleasing performance and the Tarrawanna Coach even paid a compliment to the Russell Vale “pass & move” style of football.
