Luke Kerr Gala Day – thanks to our parents.

On behalf of the RVJFC Committee I would like to pass on a huge thanks to all the volunteer work put in on Sunday by Parents and Supporters of the U8’s. It was great to see community spirit in full swing. I didn’t observe one person shirking a responsibility. When someone saw a job they just got in and did it. It certainly allowed the day to go so smoothly and has certainly set a bench mark in regards to organisation in the FSC community. The club made a tidy little profit as well.

On another note, if anybody has any photos could they find their way to Garry Luyten so they can be posted on the website.

If we can bottle and maintain the club spirit displayed on Sunday I can see a very bright future for the RVJFC Cobras!!!!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You – once again!!!!

Regards

Steve

Rd 7 U12.1 v Shellharbour

A big week for the 12s. We waved goodbye to coach Julio for a few weeks and met our new technician, grant Hughes. This was our chance to secure a third win in a row, keep the winning feeling and move up the ladder after our “soft start”.

The start to the game didn’t disappoint. Three goals in quick succession. Two from Jack and one from Jai. The ref was a bit harsh and ruled an own goal, but for mine Jai’s goal was a deflection and claimed as his. Jack finished off a nice cross for his first and made a good challenge on the goalie for his second.

The side was playing solidly and throughly deserved their lead. As with all the sides we have come up against they had some quality players who were kept under wraps by our mid field and backs.

But then something happened.

One of their brutes took a pot shot from way outside and didn’t give Braeden a chance. The looked on the up. The had a few more attacking raids and managed to get a cross in to find 2 unmarked players coming through. 3-2 not far off half time.

The boys came off field and felt confident, but didn’t take the field with it. Another goal to the bad guys and it was all tied up. A coach killer.

About half way through and Jack broke on a through ball, rounded the goalie and slotted the ball home. It seemed to take forever to get there, but it did eventually make it to the back of the net. From there on they defended confidently and thoroughly deserved their 4-3 win.

Positionally it was a pretty standard game. Jack, Wilson, SamM, and Ryan up front. Matty, Jai, mark, and Ruben in the middle. TK, TomM, Dean and Jacob at the back. SamL did a good job out of position at left back, and should be proud of the effort he put in.

U12 Girls – The year so far

Hi everyone, yes the U12 girls are still here alive and kicking.  After a great year last year all but two girls returned Samantha who moved away and Remi who is injured.  It is good to see everyone else return.  I would like to welcome two new players Halley Waller from the U10’s and Sharnie Hocking who is in her first year. We now play against better quality teams due to us moving into a combined division of 12 teams.  The pleasing issues I have are that we can still hold our own.

Draw page updated for Round 7

The draw page has been updated for Round 7 Games. Note that the U16 game originally scheduled for Cawlwy Park on Sunday has been moved to helensburgh due to the Gala Day

Rd 6 U12.1 v Woonona

The boys were feeling up after their two wins last week, the first two of the season. This week had them pitched againt last season’s powerhouse and local rivals, Woonona. Many of the kids also know each other through Academy Training and Shadow Squad. Up early for a quick photo “op” and a 9:30 kick off at what can be the coldest ground in the Illawrra, luckily the wind wasn’t howling. Woonona have lost a few players to the Metro side and P22, they were also unlucky this week in that they only had 10 players available.

Supercoach opted for a fairly standard lineup that was missing Jacob in the backs, and TomM wasn’t feeling well after a week with the Flu, so Ryan spent a bit of time in the back line honing his tackling skills. Wilson started at centre back with TK and Deano was in his customary role.

The back line held up well with only a few genuine chances through the game. Braeden making and excellent one-on-one save at one stage. After causing a bit of havoc up front (and hitting the cross bar from memory) Jack also had a run at Centreback. Any clean sheet is certainly something the whole team can be proud of.

The first half saw a lot of attacking football, with the boys being denied by the cross bar with a couple of shots in quick succession. Wilson’s move from Centre-back to right striker reaped rewards with a cross at the end of a great run up the side line. SamM was waiting in the middle and slammed the ball into the back of the net. I don’t often say it, but if I was giving out points this week then Wil would  have been my pick. He tackled well and chased hard in defence and made a few bullocking runs up the side when he moved forward.

Jai, Matty, Mark and Ruben also saw plenty of ball and controlled the game well between them. Jai’s shot from outside the box took a deflection on the way to the back of the net. The 2-Nil lead never looked in jeapoardy, and it was well deserved. The boys should take the last few wins and build in confidence.

Next week is against Shellharbour and we will have played all of the sides in the comp. I think it’s fair to say that they were competitive in nearly every game, and could have won a few more games, except probably the Figtree game, but even there, there were positive signs.

The State Cup game next week will also be very interesting with the opposition winning all of their games this year. Let me know if you are going to have trouble getting to blacktown on Sunday.
